Do you want to redecorate but have no idea where to start? Sometimes it's difficult to even determine what style you want to go with or what it's even called. It's tough to know if you like Danish furniture or french country decor if you don't know what those things are. With so many options out there, how do you narrow it down?
I tell my clients to get on Pinterest or Houzz and start scrolling. Quickly save the rooms you like to an idea board without examing the spaces too closely. Save at least 15-20 rooms and then go into your idea board to look at what you saved or pinned. Almost always, you will see consistency between the rooms and that helps determine what your style is.
If your board looks similar to this one, you are a fan of the modern farmhouse style.
However, if you are like me, you like a little bit from every style. There are ways to combine some styles and allow you to have the best of both. French country, shabby chic, and farmhouse can pair well together. Boho chic and mid-century modern pair well. Modern glam goes great with some traditional vintage pieces. It's all about balance. Creating depth and balance in a room helps it feel more complete. Once you determine your style, you can play around with how different elements go together.
Mid-century Modern is all about clean lines and Bohemian is all about an eclectic mix of color and pattern. The two don't seem like they would work together but they do. It is one of the hottest looks for home decorating.
When the two are mixed together. the result is a wonderful mixture of both styles. The colorful pillows and rugs from Boho style pair brilliantly with the neutral simplicity of mid-century modern furnishings.
This room looks like it was curated over time through wonderful world travels. In reality, this look can be created very easily from some of the most popular home decor retailers.
Once you know your style, you can begin to find elements from a wide range of sources online and at your local retailers. If you still feel like you could use some help but you don't want to hire a designer for the entire process, I offer a variety of online interior design packages.
Online interior design or e-design is a way for me to work with you no matter where you are located. It's all done with an online software program that I provide and you never have to leave your house! I offer packages ranges from a one-hour consultation or single room all the way up to a five-room project. I've detailed the process here: bit.ly/2my7uvX
