The season of giving is upon us. Giving a gift is a way to celebrate life, love, and friendship. In this case, it’s a way to honor the birth of Jesus. The wise men gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense (incense), and myrrh (an oil). These are not typical gifts for an infant but this was not a typical infant. The gold was a symbol of kingship, the incense a symbol of deity, and the myrrh a symbol of death.
The gifts we give each other is to celebrate the everlasting life we received from Jesus. If you are Jewish, gifts are given for 8 days in honor of the small amount of oil that kept the Temple menorah lit for 8 days during the Maccabean revolt against a tyrannical king. A gift for Kwanzaa is meant to honor the creative spirit and commemorate a shared heritage.
Only you can decide what gifts are right. You may decide to give the gift of an experience rather than a physical gift. You might choose to give your gift money to charity in honor of someone. Whatever you choose, let it come from your heart.
If you are having a hard time figuring out what to get for the special people in your life, I’ve put together a few helpful guides to make it easier to snag that perfect gift that will make someone smile.
