This past Monday, the design world lost a legendary designer. Mario Buatta, the “Prince of Chintz”, has left us. He was widely known for his lavish take on English Country style and his notable design work for Mariah Carey, Barbara Walters, and BIlly Joel. He also designed Blair House which is the guest house at The White House.
PRINCE OF CHINTZ
Buatta was such a fan of the printed cotton fabric known as chintz that it became his trademark. He often used the lush florals and bold patterns even putting his name on various wallpaper, fabric, and rug companies.
No matter what design style speaks to us, we can all appreciate the definitive style of Mario Buatta. His English Country style and often bold whimsical designs are tantamount to design genius. He will forever remain a design inspiration for generations to come.
The design world mourns the loss of this incredible talent. I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of his designs.
